Timelapse: Tocotronic Comic

In the fall, the comic collection “Sie wollen uns erzählen” (They Want to Tell Us) was released – a volume of comics based on various well-known Tocotronic songs. I was thrilled to be able to illustrate my favorite Tocotronic song. However, it turned out to be quite a challenge to draw a comic whose lyrics I hadn't written myself… Ultimately, I had to somehow orient myself to the lyrics, but at the same time, I didn't want to simply reproduce the text. But since I've always had vivid mental images when listening to music, I timed the story that developed in my head to match the individual lines of the song. Speaking of timing: Because I wanted to dedicate exactly one panel to each line, there ended up being quite a lot of panels – and more pages than originally planned… You can see how I developed the ideas for the individual images and the style of the comic in the video below: From the pencil sketch to the finished digital page in Procreate.
