Meine Serie von Istanbul-Illustrationen, Ghost Town, wurde im Cercle Magazine vorgestellt, einem französischen Kunst- und Designmagazin. Das Thema des Magazins war “Geister”. Hier ein Auszug aus dem Interview:
What is your message with the "Ghost town" series of Istanbul? While my illustrations are very colorful, I do not want Istanbul to be put in a box as this „colorful place“, because it would be very reductive. This is first and foremost a very personal series about my own memories. I wanted to paint what I’m interested in: the architecture and all the advertising and „mundane“ things about Istanbul. But the series is also about missed connections. In the paintings you see can people looking past each other, passing each other by, while searching for someone else.
What do ghosts represent for you? The idea of ghosts, for me, is the concept of people we meet but don’t know, or we know them, but they don’t stay present in our lives. So there are traces of them, maybe in the background of a photo or in the back of our minds. For me they represent the fleeting nature of memory and a certain melancholy that comes with it, but also the lightness of being able to move beyond the physical world.
